Greetings Members! We've just released a brand new email system for all Writing.Com members. While the old system was a premade program for checking email, the new system has been created specifically for our site. It better integrates with Writing.Com as whole and allows us much more flexibility in the future. This new system also cures many old problems and annoyances with the old system. I dare not list them all here. ![]() The new email system has been in development and testing for a number of months and was recently released for final testing by our Moderator group. If you experience any problems or have any questions regarding the email update, please visit the forum we have setup specifically for this purpose: "Invalid Item" ![]() Best wishes, ~~SM |
Greetings Members! Due to an update a couple days ago, we had bug in Our Shop's shopping cart system. After a few reports, we were finally able to track this bug down and exterminate it. I apologize for any trouble and sincerely appreciate everyone's patience while working through it. ![]() If you were trying to place an order, please give it another try and do let me know if you experience any further problems checking out. Thanks and best wishes, ~~SM |
... Well, sorta new tags. Looking back, I see that we never announced a few very important WritingML tags set that were added to Writing.Com at least a few months back... ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the information on these ![]() Writing.Com provides two systems for adding notations within writing: PopNotes and FootNotes. The PopNote WritingML Tag: The PopNote Tag consist of an opening tag and a closing tag. The opening tag contains the text displayed with a dotted underline, inviting a mouse over. The text "between" the opener and closer tags is pop'd within the note. {popnote:"TEXT"}Then your popnote goes here{/popnote}. Example: {popnote:"PopNotes"}PopNotes are {e:star} New {e:star}!{/popnote}. Yields: PopNotes The opening tag always uses quotes to enclose the "stuff". For example: {popnote:"correct"}something{/popnote} ... is right. {popnote:wrong}something{/popnote} ... is wrong. The FootNote WritingML Tag: The FootNote tag consists of an opening and closing tag: {footnote:TYPE}Then your footnote goes here{/footnote}. TYPE can be any of the following: ![]() to use number - 2, 3, 4 etc won't work. ![]() (or AA-ZZ) Using "a" will produce lowercased lettered footnotes, "A" will produce capital letters. The system automatically increments the footnote count, so you would only use "1" or "a" and it will decide which number or letter to show. Example: Footnotes add notes. {footnote:#}Notes like this.{/footnote} Yields: Footnotes add notes. 1 Example: This is a 2nd footnote. {footnote:#}This footnote is 2nd.{/footnote} Yields: This is a 2nd footnote. 2 Example: This is an alpha footnote. {footnote:A}This is "A".{/footnote} Yields: This is an alpha footnote. A The Quote WritingML Tag: The Quote tag consists of an opening and closing tag: {quote}Then your quote goes here{/quote}. The system automatically indents all of the enclosed text like this example: This is an example quote. It is indented automatically, even through line breaks. This is an example quote. It is indented automatically, even through line breaks. This is an example quote. It is indented automatically, even through line breaks. Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() Footnotes |

Greets, We've moved the Writing.Com News item from a book format to a blog format. ![]() ~~SM |
Greetings Members! We've expanded our Portfolio Export system to include more options. Linked from the Site Tools navigaiton menu, Portfolio Export provides members with the means to export a large portion of their portfolio quickly and easily. The export system will include Static Items, Books and Web Pages. After choosing an export format, the export system can now generate either a single textarea with the contents of your portfolio within it, a single text file with the contents of your portfolio or a ZIP file that contains each of your portfolio items as its own file. The following data export types are available: * Copy and Paste Textarea: You can copy the entire contents of your exported portfolio and then paste it into a local word processor on your computer. This export process makes keeping a local copy of your writing convenient and fast. (Note: Due to web browser limitations, this option may not work correctly for larger portfolios.) * Export as a Text file: With this option, the system will general a single .txt file with the entire contents of your portfolio within it. Your web browser should prompt you to download this file to your computer. If it does not, save the resulting page as your portfolio .txt file. * Export as a .ZIP archive file: This will create a single, downloadable .zip file with the entire contents of your portfolio. The .zip file will contain each portfolio item as it's own file in whichever format you have selected, either .txt or .html Please remember that Writing.Com recommends that you write and store all of your work directly on your computer and then upload the work to Writing.Com. Doing this helps to ensure that your first drafts and/or changes are never lost in a connection error between our web site and your computer. Enjoy! ~~SM |
Greetings Members, When viewing your portfolio listings within your "My Portfolio" area, private items now have a different color background than other other portfolio listings. This helps to quickly see at a glance which items are private and which are not. Please note that this color change effects only your personal view of your own personal portfolio. Best wishes, ~~SM |
